City center spring cleaning urges to keep rugby tidy

A SPRING clean-up of Rugby town center has taken place – prompting a call to keep the town tidy.

The Rugby First cleaning team took part in the two-week Great British Spring Clean initiative organized by Keep Britain Tidy.

They are now asking residents, businesses and visitors to support their efforts in keeping the downtown area clean throughout the year.

Rugby First’s three-person cleaning team provide services such as litter, leaf and gum removal, deep cleaning of pavements and driveways, as well as more specialist services such as graffiti removal.

They use a small fleet of high tech battery operated cleaning equipment with quirky names such as The Powerflex, The Metro Deep and The Glutton.

Jo Kemp, Rugby First’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “The cleaning crew is one of the main services Rugby First provides to the town center and the businesses there.

“They deal with a variety of issues, which means businesses don’t have to employ their own cleanup crews or hire specialist graffiti contractors. Each year, the team deals with more than fifty graffiti incidents in the city center and this number has steadily increased over the past two months.

“A clean, safe and welcoming downtown is essential to its operation, its growth, its economy and its success.
